What is dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jawbone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.
Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth. Compared to conventional bridges, implants do not require preparation or grinding down of adjacent healthy teeth in order to hold the new replacement tooth/teeth in place. In the long run, implant can be more esthetic and easier to keep clean than a bridge. Implant-supported dentures won't slip or shift in your mouth - an especially important benefit when eating and speaking. The secure fit of implant-supported crown/bridge/denture makes it feel more natural than conventional bridges or dentures and provides much better function.
Dental implant options
Replacing one tooth -- one implant and one crown can replace it
Replacing multiple teeth -- implant-supported bridges can replace them
Replacing all teeth -- an implant-supported full bridge or full denture (removable or non-removable) can replace them
